Chemical Process Engineer

The altM Engineering team is responsible for converting the R&D team’s research into actionable engineering and manufacturing deliverables in order to set up production. The candidate understands how to best design for chemicals manufacturing, and will conceptualise and implement full-scale production for biomass processing.

Responsibilities:

Overview

  • Design and commission demo/pilot scale manufacturing units for biomass processing

Process Engineering

  • PFD, P&ID, and process datasheet preparation
  • Process equipment selection and sizing: reactors, distillation system, evaporators, scrubbers, pumps, gas compressors, heat exchangers, and vessels
  • Utility selection and sizing: steam, hot oil system, hot water system, cooling towers, chillers, and air compressors
  • Process safety device selection and sizing: PSV, TRV, RD, etc
  • Line sizing and pressure drop estimation
  • Instrument selection (flow, T, P, level, pH, etc) and process control philosophy development
  • Process cause and effect diagram, alarm matrix, and safety interlock sheet preparation

Equipment & Production Engineering

  • Define the production plant design/layout, equipment specifications, and process flow documentation
  • Validate and characterize new equipment for production implementation
  • Create manufacturing instructions for production processes
  • Design production workstations for ergonomics and efficiency

Coordination & Teamwork

  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment FAT, installation, commissioning, SAT, and ramp-up
  • Coordinate with facilities teams to ensure timely preparation of the production shopfloor
  • Work closely with the R&D team and provide manufacturing feedback to ensure that manufacturability is baked into R&D activities from the beginning
  • Partner with all internal stakeholders including R&D, finance, supply chain, and production to ensure that project delivery is on time and under budget

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations during scale-up, along with necessary documentation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in chemical engineering/O&G/related fields, or evidence of exceptional ability
  • 5-8+ years of experience in setting up new chemical processing, O&G, or biomass processing production plants
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical engineering principles, process design, design for manufacturing, chemical engineering software and systems
  • Conversant with simulation software such as DWSIM, Aspen Suite, EDR/HTRI, etc
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, presentation – and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with vendor coordination for FAT, SAT, installation, and commissioning activities
  • This is an onsite role and requires physical presence at the production site
  • Ability to travel locally, domestically in India, and overseas
