The altM Engineering team is responsible for converting the R&D team’s research into actionable engineering and manufacturing deliverables in order to set up production. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical systems for our biochemical production units.

Responsibilities

Engineering

  • Mechanical design of chemical process equipment such as – Pressure vessels, Heat exchangers, storage vessels, columns and related equipment.
  • Mechanical design and analysis of modular process plant skids, design of multistorey skid mounted units.
  • Assisting development of novel mechanical equipment and machine design efforts.
  • Mechanical design of process equipment using PVelite to ensure temperature-pressure compatibility and process safety.
  • Review of GA and Fabrication drawings prepared by draftsman and for bought-out items.
  • Mechanical inputs to draftsman for 3D model preparation and continuous model review.
  • Develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in collaboration with process engineering team.
  • Selection of pipe schedules, flange type and ratings as per the required MoC and temperature-pressure rating.
  • Estimation piping and pipe-fittings requirement and preparation of piping BOQ/MTO based on the P&ID issued by process engineering team.
  • Review of material testing, NDT reports for equipment, piping and other bought-out items.
  • Witnessing testing routines whenever necessary at vendor sites.

Documentation

  • Maintaining a track of GA and fabrication drawings revision and CRS.
  • Maintaining material and NTD reports for all bought-out items.
  • Maintaining hydro and pneumatic testing reports for piping and all pressure vessels.

Site Erection & Commissioning

  • Planning and assisting commissioning team for plant structure erection, vessel installation, pressure testing and commissioning.
  • Consulting on-site modifications in piping, equipment and related mechanical testing as and when required.
  • Preparing heavy equipment/structure lifting and movement plan and executing efficiently with maximum safety precautions.
  • Cross-functional co-ordination for faster plant erection and commissioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or evidence of exceptional ability.
  • 5+ years of experience in designing commercial scale skid mounted-modular units for chemical or biochemical processing plants.
  • Proficiency with mechanical design software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency with mechanical design with PVelite.
  • Knowledge of ASME codes such as B16.5, ASME SecVIII Div1.
  • Knowledge of pipe schedules, flange types, flange ratings, pipe fittings etc.
  • Excellent communication skills—verbal, written, and presentation—and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with vendor coordination for FAT, SAT, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • This is an onsite role and requires physical presence at the production site.
  • Ability to travel locally within India and internationally as required.
