Loopworm is building novel technologies and processes to harness the true potential of insects for developing sustainable products. They believe that by maximizing the value per insect using biotechnology and bio-processing, the insect agriculture industry will truly boom. Insects being promoted as a medium to solve food waste or as nutrition for animals and pets is limiting the potential of cultivated insects. With millions of species and a high nutrition density, insects can be leveraged to make natural plant bio-stimulants, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, food, and even industrial chemicals and wellbeing products. Insects are already being used as drug discovery and testing platforms, understanding genetics and doing evolution studies. Bio-pharma companies have been using insect cells for recombinant protein production. With a vision to become the world's largest insect processor, Loopworm has empowered insect producers and has created a decentralized CAPEX lean insect production mechanism. By tying up with contract insect cultivators and building a novel processing technology, Loopworm is quickly fueling the insect economy. Loopworm uses Silkworms and Black Soldier Fly larvae. With animal and pet nutrition as the beach-head markets, Loopworm will steadily venture into amino acid and chitin derived plant biostimulants, cosmetics and nutraceuticals, oleochemicals, and recombinant proteins. In January 2024, Loopworm commissioned a 6000 Tonnes/Annum insect processing facility to make LoopMeal and LoopOil as sustainable ingredients in animal feed and pet food. Loopworm was established in 2019 by Ankit Alok Bagaria and Abhi Gawri in Bangalore, Karnataka, immediately after graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, India.
